Chino Nunez with the Wolfson Latin Jazz Big Band, Free Concert July 15




Presented by the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus Department of Music, Theater and Dance.

Chino Nunez, master percussionist/composer/producer, will perform in concert with the Wolfson Latin Jazz Big Band on Monday, July 15, 2013, at 7:30 pm. Admission is free.  The concert will take place at the McCarthy Auditorium, Room 6120, located at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, 11011 SW 104th St, Miami FL 33176.

Pablo Chino Nunez is a multiple Grammy, Latin Grammy, and Billboard winner/nominee, whose diverse recording and performing experience includes work with legendary figures Tito Puente, Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Johnny Pacheco, Marc Anthony, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Larry Harlow, Tito Nieves, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra and a host of other artists. Chino has performed in venues all over the world including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and Madison Square Garden among many others.

Backing up Chino will be the WLJBB's rhythm section:

Erick Castaneda, conga (Rey Ruiz, Andy Montanez, the Mario Ortiz Jr. All-Star Band)

Rolando Willy Barriga, bongo (Tito Nieves, Frankie Negron)

George Mazzeo, drums (Peter Nero, longtime SF jazz veteran)

Also appearing will be South Florida Jazz artist and MDC faculty member Tom McCormick (saxophone), and vocalist Javier Merino, recording artist with Emilio Estefan, Rey Ruiz, and Miles Pena among many others.

The Wolfson Latin Jazz Big Band is the resident Latin Jazz orchestra of downtown Miami since 2006, an all-pro special-project group operating out of the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College.   An 18-piece powerhouse, it's members have performed with everyone from Celia Cruz to the Miami Sound Machine and K.C. and the Sunshine Band.
